Terms of service

Effective 1 October 2026

These terms cover the Bharpai app, the settle and khata pages, and bharpai.app. Bharpai is run by Sourav Mishra, an individual developer in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India ("we"). Using Bharpai means you agree to these terms and to the privacy policy.

Who can use Bharpai

You must be 18 or older to create an account or join the waitlist. We ask for this before we collect anything, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has given us their data, write to support@bharpai.app and we will delete it. Paying through a settle link needs no account; the person who shares the link is responsible for who they share it with.

Your account

What Bharpai is

Bharpai is a record-keeping and convenience tool for splitting group expenses. It works out each person's share, generates UPI QR codes and settle pages so people can pay the collector directly from their own UPI app, and tracks who has marked their share as paid. Bharpai is not a payment service and never receives, holds or transfers money.

What Bharpai is not

Bharpai is not a bank, wallet, payment aggregator, or payment gateway. All payments happen directly between UPI users through their own UPI apps and banks. We are not a party to any transaction, we do not hold funds, and we cannot reverse, refund, or guarantee any payment.

Your responsibilities

Refunds and cancellations

Acceptable use

Do not use Bharpai to impersonate others, spam people with links, attempt to phish, or upload anything unlawful, obscene, or that you do not have the right to share. We may remove content, block splits or devices, or close accounts engaged in abuse.

Copyright and takedown requests

The only things people upload to Bharpai are profile photos and the text of splits and khatas. If you believe something on a Bharpai page infringes your copyright or is unlawful, send a notice to support@bharpai.app with the page link, what the material is, why you believe it is infringing or unlawful, your contact details, and a statement that the information is accurate. We acknowledge notices within 24 hours and act on valid ones within 36 hours of a lawful order and in any case within 15 days, as the Indian IT Rules, 2021 require.

Grievance officer

Under the Information Technology Act, 2000, the IT Rules, 2021 and the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, complaints about Bharpai or its handling of your data go to our grievance officer:

We acknowledge a complaint within 24 hours and resolve it within 15 days. If you are not satisfied with our response on a personal data matter, you can take it to the Data Protection Board of India.

Liability

Bharpai is provided as is. To the maximum extent the law allows, we are not liable for losses arising from payments made or not made between users, incorrect UPI details entered by users, or downtime of UPI infrastructure we do not operate. Nothing here limits rights you have under consumer protection law that cannot be limited.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of India. Courts in Bhubaneswar, Odisha have jurisdiction, without taking away any right you have to go to a court or consumer forum where you live.

Changes

We may update these terms; the date above reflects the current version. Material changes are announced in the app before they take effect.
